Thank you for setting up this tribute to Jim's life, lovely to see those photos over the years. I've known Jim for over 30 years and there are so many great memories that it is difficult to settle on one in particular. One does stand out, which happened when Jim and I were working together for the MOD on a very busy project. Jim had been working typically hard and had requested a day's leave on a Friday to go to a Test (at Lords, I think) and he was really looking forward to it as arthritis had really taken hold by then making it very hard for Jim to get about. On the morning of the Test, before a ball had even been bowled my phone started buzzing and Jim's name came up. Strange I thought, but then I guessed that Jim had probably called to wind me up about being in the office whilst he was off to a day of test cricket in the summer sun. But, of course not, nothing could ever be that normal with Jim. To my astonishment, he told me that he had been knocked over whilst walking to the ground and had been carted off to hospital in an ambulance. The reason for his call was to say that he didn't think he would make it to the office on Monday. Make it to the office on Monday!!! he had been badly injured and was away from work for several months recuperating. This story sums Jim up in many ways, his great affection for sport (especially cricket), not letting illness get in the way of life and always thinking of others! Take care, Helene and family. I'm sure that you will miss Jim's cheeky grin and quips - I know I certainly will.
